Youth council

Tairawhiti Youth Voice (TYV) is Gisborne District Council's appointed youth council for the district.

Council's expectations of TYV in its role as Gisborne district youth council is to:

• act as an advocate and provide expertise to council on issues important to young people
• make recommendations to council on issues affecting young people
• address issues of concern to young people
• monitor and evaluate councils youth services and youth strategy (when completed)
• monitor and evaluate council's policy and strategic direction in other areas of interest to young people 

Council is supporting the new youth council by helping to get funding and deliver the RNGA-1 UNYT (Rangatahi Unite) project.  The new project is about developing youth leadership.
