Wastewater technical group

The Wastewater Technical Advisory Group ( WTAG ) includes representatives from the following organisations:

  • Medical Officer of Health
  • Tairawhiti District Health Board
  • Department of Conservation
  • Te Runanga O Turanganui A Kiwa
  • Ngati One One
  • Enviromental Groups
  • Industry Representatives
  • Gisborne District Council staff
  • Others who may have a contribution to make to the workings of the group.

Established under clause 4A of the resource consent.  This group is tasked with the Biological Trickling Filter (BTF) plant monitoring and investigation study. The study shall run for 3 years after the commissioning of the single BTF plant and is to determine the effectiveness of the treatment process and the amount of biotransformation being achieved. The study will also assess the scientific rational and effectiveness of various clauses in the consent.

At the conclusion of the 3 year study period the group shall report their findings to the wastewater management committee and council.

The study has been divided into the following topics with each member responsible for reporting on that particular area.

  • Chemical
  • Biological
  • Atmospheric
  • Social
  • Economic
  • Cultural
  • Carbon footprint

The information library is available to assist the group members in the study.
