Urban Development Strategy

Gisborne District Council's Urban Development Strategy is intended to provide direction for other plans relating to the Gisborne urban area, such as Council's Resource Management Act Plans and the Community Plan. Through these it would influence how Council spends its money, development of land use regulation and policy, and Council's future work programme.

The types of things that the strategy addresses include :    

  • redevelopment directions for the city
  • the promotion of quality design
  • celebrating the cultural landscape in the urban environment
  • making better use of public spaces and natural landscape features     
  • improving connectivity through the city
  • building confidence in the 'brand' Gisborne
