Tairawhiti By Choice

Tairawhiti By Choice establishes a vision for Tairawhiti, by identifying desired community outcomes.
Under the Local Government Act 2002 these outcomes are required to be identified at least every 6 years. Tairawhiti By Choice cover

Community outcomes are the important things the community needs to improve the quality of life such as affordable housing, well paid jobs, access to health care and a wide range of leisure and recreational facilities and clean waterways.

The process of identifying community outcomes gives the community the opportunity to discuss and prioritise their long term aspirations or goals. The outcomes can then be used by council and other organisations to inform policy, guide the delivery of services and better coordinate community resources.

This process was first established in 2003/04, and was reviewed in 2007/08, culminating in the adoption of Tairawhiti By Choice in May 2009. However, the legislative requirements for the community outcomes process are currently under review.
