Gisborne Employment Summit

The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, Gisborne District Council, the Employers and Manufacturers Association and the Ministry of Social Development, hosted an Employment Summit on Friday, 24th April 2009 at the Poverty Bay Golf Club. It follows Prime Minister John Key's jobs summit in February.

Key speakers at the summit included Dr Ganesh Nana - Senior Economist for BERL, Anne Tolley MP for Gisborne, James Palmer Director Strategy Development MAF Policy Wellington, as well as presentations from local industry leaders. Speakers presented the impacts of the recession and the challenges and opportunities moving forward.

The summit was well attended by approximately 70 people. Also attending were the Mayor of Gisborne, Mr Meng Foon as well as electorate MP Anne Tolley and the Labour MP Parekura Horomia. Labour List MP Moana Mackey also attended.
