Wireless internet strategy for CBD

A group representing Heart of Gisborne, Tourism Eastland and Gisborne District Council are currently working on a plan to roll out wireless internet in the CBD in time for summer.  While such a service is already in place in many towns and cities around New Zealand, spokesperson Darryl Monteith believes there's an opportunity for Gisborne to learn from the experience elsewhere and ensure we get the right system for our situation.  "There are as many ways to offer wireless interent as there are places doing it, but if it is to be sustainable it must meet the needs of our locals and visitors and someone has to pay for the data usage." Final decisions made on Council’s 2012-2022 Ten Year Plan

Gisborne District Council’s draft 2012-2022 Ten Year Plan[/planning-our-2012-2022-ten-year-plan/] went out for consultation in March and 263 submissions were received. On 28–30 May 73 submitters spoke to Council about their views. All the submissions were considered and at the Council meeting on 31 May, Council agreed to make a number of final changes to the 2012-2022 Ten Year Plan before it is adopted at the end of June.
