Waihi Bridge in Tokomaru Bay will be closed this weekend

Waihi Bridge on Wharf Road, Tokomaru Bay will be closed for urgent repairs on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November. The guardrail on one side of the bridge has deteriorated and will be replaced with a concrete block guardrail. The guardrail on the other side of the bridge has already been replaced. Read more >>

Progress on beachfront cycle and walkway

Gisborne District Council has approved the boardwalk option for the beachfront cycle and walkway through the back of the sand dunes between Grey Street and Beacon Street finishing as a concrete path to Midway Surf Club. Detailed designs will now be produced. Read more >>
Funding available for good ideas to minimise waste

A fund to support people and organisations minimise the impacts of waste in the Gisborne district is seeking applications. Gisborne District Council awards $10,000 annually to support the community to get involved in practical solutions to rethink how we deal with waste. Read more >>
Where to have a bonfire this Guy Fawkes

For those planning on enjoying a bonfire this Guy Fawkes head on down to Midway Beach. A special permit has been granted for the stretch of beach between Midway Surf Club and the Green Light for Tuesday 5 November only. There is still plenty of wood along the beach in this area and residents are encouraged to make the most of this once a year opportunity. No other permits for events have been issued. Read more >>
