More rural recycling and composting thanks to stickers

The amount of waste going to landfill from rural areas has reduced by approximately half in October. This reduction will extend the life of the Waiapu landfill and the out of town landfill used by TPI AllBrites. Recycling tonnages are also up. Further monitoring over the next few months will give a more accurate picture.   Read more >>

First section of Waikanae cycle and walkway nearly complete

The extension of the Gisborne city cycle and walkway network from Customhouse Street to Waikanae Beach is now open. It was completed late last week and is already getting a lot of use. The new section takes in the Captain Cook and Young Nick statues at the mouth of the Turanganui River and provides wonderful views of the port, Poverty Bay and Young Nicks Head. There is still a little bit of work to do including grassing the surrounds, installing litter bins, lighting and some signage. This will all be completed before Christmas. Read more >>
Make over for Matawai township

There has been a hive of activity in the Matawai township over the past few weeks. An upgrade of the main street has been underway with contractors working on stormwater pipes, kerb and channelling, footpaths, toilets, and a new rest area. Read more >>
