New loo for Anaura Bay
Visitors to Anaura Bay this summer will have a brand new toilet to use.
The $79,000 loo is part of a wider project that also includes pit toilet replacements at Hicks Bay Wharf and Waipiro Bay, and an internal upgrade to the East Cape Lighthouse facility.
The $256,000 funding has come from the Mid Regional Facilities Tourism Fund. It's the first time Anaura Bay has had a public facility, which is planned to be installed pre-Christmas.
Council contracts and asset manager Garrett Blair says it's a big step for the popular spot.
The unisex single use facility will be located near the Cook Memorial, and is stage one of a planned arrival area.
“That will be subject to funding and completed over the next few years we hope,” said Garrett.
The drive for the new toilet at Anaura Bay came from Councillor Pat Seymour.
“We have used portaloos in the past but that’s just not feasible any more,” says Garrett.
“We are lucky to secure the necessary funding to make this happen.”
The necessary consents have been submitted. The unisex toilet has its own water and septage tanks.
Work at Hicks Bay Wharf and Waipiro Bay will start in the New Year.
