Business energy saving
Paper use/ Recycling system
Reduction of paper use
- Share electronic files, voicemail and e-mail with office mates instead of creating paper memos.
- Retain documents on your computer rather than in hard copy, this saves paper; saves on file storage space and keeps them right at your fingertips.
- Establish green printing standards, printing paper documents that are as short as possible and only when necessary.
Reuse of paper
- The most efficient possible use of paper with mandatory double-sided photocopying and printing.
- Set the photocopier to print both sides as standard.
- Use once used paper for draft copies in all desktop printers. Re-use paper used on one side for fax cover sheets and notepaper.
Office supply
- Purchase paper, which has a high-recycled content. With a post-consumer waste content greater than 70%.
- Purchase paper, that is, totally-chlorine free during production.
- Purchase paper, sold with an accredited environmental or green label that details emission standards and post consumer waste content.
Recycling system
- Help start an office paper recycling program at your company if one is not in place.
- If there is one, encourage your co-workers to use it -- sometimes a simple reminder about the amount of paper that gets thrown away every year is all it takes!
- Make sure that recycling bins are located close to printers and photocopiers (and remove the trash can if possible).
- Waste composition is different from office to office, but most bins are composed by following:
Computer Printout
29 %
Mixed Papers
23 %
Corrugated Containers
8 %
Newspapers
10 %
Total Paper
70 %
Other Wastes - glass, metals, plastics, food, etc.
30 %
Total Office Wastes
100 %
- Maximise the convenience of use and collection. This will minimise the effort and contamination by non-recyclable material.
- Provide clear notices for what is and isn’t recyclable.
