No costs/ low costs options
- Regularly inspect the water heat pressure relief valve to ensure there is no excessive water overflow.
- Adjust thermostats so that hot water at the tap is 55°C.
- Turn the hot water system off if isn't needed for longer than two weeks e.g. over Christmas holidays.
- Repair any dripping taps; they waste water and energy
- If your hot water cylinder is warm to touch, install a hot water cylinder wrap and fit lagging on pipes.
- Choose a hot water system that best suits your business needs.
- Replace conventional taps with tempered spray taps. This can save 60% of the energy used by a conventional tap for warm water.
- Reduce demand for hot water. If you have showers in the workplace, install water saving showerheads.
Some investment
- Install an ‘A’ grade hot water cylinder.
- Consider heat recory systems to use heat waste of motors for boiling water
- Solar Hot Water Systems: Solar thermal hot water systems have been available for years, and can in many cases supply most of a building's hot water needs, or supplement for many small businesses with large water-heating needs (for example, restaurants, bars, and dry cleaners).
- Insulate the hot water pipes between the cylinder and taps.
