Energy Strategy

The Gisborne District Energy Strategy identifies key opportunities and priorities based on the Tairawhiti Regional Energy Assessment, which was completed in December 2004.Energy Strategy

At present the district is facing an electricity supply constraint as transmission and distribution lines into parts of the region reach capacity.  In addition the region has some of the highest costs for energy in the nation.

In the face of rising energy costs and the predicted diminishing supply of fossil fuels over the next decade the Gisborne District Council has the potential to proactively manage its local energy needs in combination with the Tairawhiti Partnership to ensure a sustainable energy future for both the district and the region.
