Special voting

Special votes are available to electors during the 3 week voting period, if:

  • your name does not appear on the final electoral roll, but you qualify as an elector ie. you enrolled after the closing of the roll
  • you did not receive a voting document in the mail
  • you spoil or damage a voting document that was posted to you
  • your name appears on the unpublished electoral roll

You can apply for a special vote by:

  • contacting the electoral officer at the Gisborne District Council, or
  • going to a designated polling booth during the 3 week period before polling day. These are located at:
    • Gisborne District Council, Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne
    • Te Puia Springs service centre

Special votes require the completion of a statutory declaration.  This is a legal requirement and protects against possible duplicate voting.
