2017 Christmas message

Wow what a year!!  As 2017 draws to a close it’s time to enjoy Christmas with family and friends. I know that Nedine and I will certainly be enjoying the time off with our families.  What I consider important though, is to take some time out to make sure we reflect on the year that has been and to celebrate our achievements, however small.

For Council it was a year of transition and consolidation, with a new chief executive who faced a number of challenges.

It's been a year of much progress too. The library extension is well underway and will be open at the end of summer, and we started the managed aquifer recharge trial in winter. GHL have rebuilt our administration centre at Fitzherbert Street and Awarua, as the new building will be known, will be officially opened to the public on Monday 15 January.

It’s also time to acknowledge all the work that goes go on behind the scenes from those teams who provide service to our customer, residents and manuhiri to our region.

We face some enormous challenges in the future, including making improvements to our roading networks, management of our wastewater and freshwater and our finances.   But for now, both Nedine and I would like to wish you all the very best for this festive season.

We hope you, our community and manuhiri enjoy our beautiful region this summer. To our visitors – we extend a heartfelt welcome to you all and we hope you enjoy your time in Tairawhiti.

To those who are working through the holiday period, thank you for keeping the region going. Council staff will be working through the holidays in order to be responsive to our community.

We at Council would like to wish you all a safe and happy festive season. Please be safe on our beaches and roads.  We look forward to bringing you more council news as it happen in the new year. Meri Kirihimete whanau
Nga mihi
