Internships in Gisborne

Kia ora - Welcome, the Gisborne District Council is both a regional council and a local body authority. We offer a diverse range of services to the Gisborne district. Interns are offered an exceptional internship experience, working in a supportive and challanging environment. Internships are offered on a voluntary basis, therefore interns will not be paid any salary/wages while completing an internship at the Gisborne District Council.

The Economic Development Unit's Administration & Research Officer liaises with all internship applicants on behalf of both the Council and the accepting work unit.
All correspondence will come via this officer.

Internship length of service varies between applicants, although it is preferable that interns would be available for at least 3 months. This way interns are able to maximise their involvement in the community and their internship.

Being situated in Gisborne as opposed to many larger cities has brought benefits to our interns:

  • The building of close networks of friends & work collegues quickly
  • Total immersion in English language
  • Exposure to Maori culture and language
  • An understanding of work practice in NZ
